Humble Digs
I wanted to dedicate this post to show you around my apartment. I currently live in the city of Baltimore, MD. Contrary to popular belief, Baltimore is a super fun and cool place to live! When the world isn’t shut down, there’s beautiful bars on the water, big parks and great sporting events. What always gets me is when people visit Baltimore and only go to Inner Harbor. And I’m not saying the harbor isn’t cool but there are so many other unique and cool areas to check out! Hit me up next time to want to head into Bmore and I’ll let you know what you should check out.
So the apartment I live in is an old converted high school on the corner of a park! It is really cool and has some great features. The unit I live in is a loft and it’s just the cutest. It has a view of the park and ALLLLL the natty light (natural light) lol. It has a great gym and roof top courtyard! The only thing it’s missing is a pool, but I guess I’ll survive! Lol
I lived alone for a year then my boyfriend moved in. As you can imagine, I had already furnished the entire thing and filled it with all of my stuff, so he was only allowed to bring his clothes. Luckily he loved the way I decorated, so it worked out great!
Just about everything in this apartment came from only two places. Home Goods and Wayfair. Now I’m literally dying without Home Goods right now lol. I know that was incredibly basic but I can find anything in there.
{EDIT- I have been working on this post for quite sometime because Home Goods has re-opened and I’ve already gone, shocker. YOU CANT KEEP ME AWAY.}
The aesthetic I was going for was modern, cozy and green. I have SO MANY plants. All fake though. Real ones are too much work for me. Let me tell you though, it really brightens up a room! BUT, I did recently visit a super cute Farmer’s Market in Fell’s Point and grabbed some real succulents! Only because they need to be watered once a month. I think I can handle that. And update; succulents are still alive and well!
Okay now that we know I am an unfit plant parent, we can move on. So like I said, I did really well at Wayfair. All of my furniture came from there. Bed, barstools, coffee table, TV stand with fireplace. Also the couch. This is where I made my mistake. Couches should not be bought online. If I can give you one piece of advice, sit on the couch before you buy it!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love the look, it fits my aesthetic and its the perfect size, but it is maybe the most uncomfortable thing I’ve ever sat on. Okay, that was dramatic but it really is not comfortable. So I learned my lesson. I’m now looking into replacing this couch with something a little more cushion-y, probably from Ikea. Ya know. Restoration Hardware Dreams, IKEA budget. Lol.
So my guide to apartment shopping and decorating is come up with a plan, color scheme, and style. If you know you like ‘farmhouse rustic’ it’s easy to shop styles, get inspiration or find matching furniture! Also make sure to find some really awesome statement pieces. Pops of color are great when decorating with a neutral scheme! Also, baskets are an apartment’s best friend! Plants in baskets, blankets in baskets, pillows in baskets!!! (Am I Oprah?!) Great storage and aesthetic!!
Wayfair is affordable and pretty trendy as far as furniture goes! One of my favorite pieces from there is my TV console with a fireplace!!! I use this everyday! Their sister companies; All Modern, Joss&Main and Birch Lane have great finds as well!! Make sure you check all their websites because sometimes they have the same items but they’re cheaper on one of the sister sites!
If you are interested in spending a little more for some quality furniture, take a look at West Elm, Anthropologie, Pottery Barn and Houzz.
I’m just here to show you it’s also possible to make your apartment look cute on a budget!
However you decide to decorate, make sure it feels like you! You can’t beat coming home to a place you’ve truly made your own!:)
